Deacons’ Page – October/November 2025

Deacons' Page

What a lovely summer we have had, even if September has been wet. We are now entering
Autumn and noticing the days getting shorter, but we do have the lovely autumn shades in
the trees. The month of September was rounded off with our harvest festival, harvest lunch
and church meeting.

At the end of August, the last Sunday we had a hymn marathon, with as many as possible
hymns chosen by the congregation. Two of the hymns had the same tune, so we could sing
both hymns together! We also learnt that before 1929 the music before the FA Cup was
Alexander’s Ragtime Band. Now it is the hymn Abide With Me, very different sentiments.

In October we remember the anniversary of the founding of our church, this is usually on the
first Sunday of the month. November brings remembrance Sunday on the 9th of November
when our service starts at 10.45am.

Sally mentioned at the last meeting that it would be nice to knit a nativity scene if we could
find a pattern, well a pattern has been found, so if anyone would like to knit a contribution
let her know.

Unfortunately, if you remember the old printer broke down completely and so needed to be
replaced, this was the first edition of the newsletter to be printed upon it.

At our September church meeting we agreed to give our Harvest donation to help Gaza. We
also had a lovely Harvest lunch of soup, bread and cheese and ham, followed by apple
crumble and custard. Thank you Sally.
