We were quorate at October’s Church Meeting (great to see Jemima back again, and looking well), and with one to spare (special thanks to Bridget, who joined us straight after a trip to the A&E – get well soon Bridget). And whilst there were no issues of any great magnitude upon which to deliberate, the business of the Church rolls on and even the mundane needs to be addressed expeditiously. Matters such as the publication of this newsletter, and who would do what, were discussed and resolved.
As we approach November there are two major happenings for which we need to be ready. The first is the laying of the wreath during the traditional Remembrance Day parade and ceremony at the Cenotaph. For many years Jemima has represented us at this event, and her return was timely as her services were once again gratefully received.
The second is the Annual Church Meeting, which will take place on the 27th. This is where we elect our Deacons to serve for the coming year, as well as filling (or refilling) the various posts. Any Church Member may stand for election to the diaconate provided that he or she has been duly nominated by another Church Member. If you are reading this and you would like to put your name forward for his role then please do consider stepping forward. Likewise if you feel there is another role that you could undertake on our behalf.
It will not be long before we will be holding our annual Carols by Candlelight event, and each of us should consider how we might help with the process of putting the show together. Traditionally the telling of the Nativity story is performed between carols and readings from scripture, once again if members of the congregation would like to play an active part we really would be eager to hear from you.
It is always pleasing when enough of us report present to enable us to get Church business done. We are grateful to God that we continue in spite of the various setbacks and challenges that we experience, and that even some new initiatives would appear to be peering tentatively over the horizon.
