Deacons’ Page – August 2024

Deacons' Page

The July Church Meeting was one we’d long feared would be something of a non-event – and it didn’t disappoint. With a number of key people either away on holiday, unwell or already promised to other community meetings the quorum was never going to be hit, and when only three made it along on the night, one of them not feeling very well, it was agreed to cancel proceedings. With there being no Church Meeting in August this means the next time we are able to get together will be in September, so let’s please make every effort to be there.

Nevertheless, July has in some other respects been an active month. The Special Meeting called to discuss the future of the evening service was very well attended (see elsewhere in this newsletter) and there were a range of interesting and lively contributions. We should perhaps be aiming towards a place where our monthly Church Meeting takes on a similar form.

Earlier in the month we received news of a couple of extremely generous donations which will certainly help to alleviate our still somewhat parlous financial situation. A potential roof leak which had appeared to present itself some while back would seem to have fixed itself, hopefully saving us another unwelcome expense. Our good friends from LoveMinistry returned to the premises for a two-night hire. We even have a bric-a-brac table now in the hall which has itself generated a few pounds for the coffers.

Traditionally August is a quiet month, but we should consider it an opportunity for quiet reflection, and for consolidation in the absence of some of the essential but time-consuming activities which we engage in throughout the rest of the year.
